2015 Scholarship Winners: Ryan D'Alessandro, Miranda Byrne, Matthew Frazier, Sean Nyhuis

The Thomas H. Bowden, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund awarded scholarships to Ryan D'Alessandro,
Miranda Byrne, Matthew Frazier and Sean Nyhuis, graduating seniors from Glen Ridge High School, at an assembly Friday, June 5th. The assembly was held at the Glen Ridge Upper Elementary School. Tommy's sister - Kathryn Bowden - and Tommy's friend - James Cowan - presented the awards.

Kathryn shared, "Once again, we had to choose from a very large group of applicants. Every applicant shared a story of how their life touched another's in their essay - and every applicant's story touched a place in our hearts. We are so very honored to have the opportunity to keep Tommy's legacy of quietly touching the lives of others alive with our award to our four winners!"

Congratulations to the the Class of 2015!

The 2015 Scholarship Winners have been Decided!

After much deliberation, the 2015 Thomas H. Bowden, Jr. Memorial Scholarship recipients have been determined.

This has not been an easy process! We were extremely impressed with the quality of every applicant's essay - as well as the pictures they painted of life as a young adult in Glen Ridge. We know that each and every person was deserving.

The Scholarships will be awarded on Friday, June 5th at the awards ceremony in the auditorium at the Ridgewood Avenue Upper Elementary School (known to some of us as the old Middle School) - and after the awards are presented their names will be posted here.

2015 Scholarship Application

Welcome scholarship applicants! This scholarship is for seniors graduating from Glen Ridge High School. The completed application with essay attached must be turned in to your guidance counselor no later than April 10, 2015.

The application form is available at the Glen Ridge High School Guidance Office, or you can download a copy here.

Thomas Bowden graduated Glen Ridge High School with the Class of 1983. After he died, we received many cards and letters from people, describing how Tommy had touched their life. Some gestures were small things, like the way he befriended a new student. Other gestures were larger – but they all spoke of Tom’s kind and generous nature.

Please refer to the articles here and write an essay describing how you – by your words or your actions – have quietly touched the lives of others, as Tommy did. The essay should be a minimum of one page, typed and double-spaced.

Good luck!
